Stockholm's City Hall was an easy walk from where we were staying in Riddarholmen. It is a beautiful red brick building with a square banquet hall in the middle. This is where the Nobel Prize Banquet and Ball hosted by the King and Queen of Sweden are held every year in December. Besides providing a beautiful example of Romantic architecture, City Hall also functions as the meeting place for Stockholm's city government. A tower faces south to Gamla Stan and gardens which overlook Lake Målaren surround the outside.
During the summer tourists can climb to the top of tower. It is a hard climb with 365 steps, but the view from the top is spectacular. It is hard to imagine that the building is only one hundred years old as you climb the stairs. Along the way you will see many articles from Sweden's past on display, including a giant sculpture.
